Android hides some of its most useful tools a few menus deep. These four take a minute each to find, and once you know them you will use them every week.
Share your Wi-Fi with a QR code
Where to find it: Swipe down for Quick Settings, Internet, Share Wi-Fi
Android draws a QR code for the network you are on. A guest scans it with their camera and joins, and nobody reads a password off the back of the router.
Find the notification you swiped away
Where to find it: Settings, Notifications, Notification history
Switch on notification history once, and every alert from the last day stays in a list, including the one you dismissed before reading it. Some phones do not offer it; look under Notifications in Settings.
Record your screen without an app
Where to find it: Swipe down twice for Quick Settings, Screen record
The screen recorder is built into Quick Settings. It can record the whole screen or a single app, and the recording lands in your photos, which makes it the quickest way to show someone how to do something.
Pin an app before you hand the phone over
Where to find it: Settings, search for App pinning
App pinning keeps one app on the screen until you unpin it, and unpinning asks for your PIN, pattern or password. Hand a child a game or a friend your photos, and they cannot wander into your messages.
The paths are from a Pixel phone. Samsung and other makers name some menus differently; the phone's settings search finds each one by its name.
